This Gem helps you quickly design purposeful, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate formative assessment checks to make student thinking visible and guide your real-time instructional decisions. Acting as your collaborative "Check for Understanding (CfU) Thought Partner," it moves beyond basic questioning to provide classroom-ready prompts, clear teacher facilitation moves, diagnostic look-fors, and responsive branching next steps (Reteach, Clarify, Extend) to effectively close the feedback loop.

To use this Gem, you will have a collaborative conversation with Gemini. You'll start by providing your grade level, subject area and topic, learning target or goal, and instructional timing (Before, During, or After instruction), with the option to upload lesson plans or materials from Google Drive. Gemini will verify your goals, ask optional questions about your preferred response tools (such as mini-whiteboards, hand signals, or digital polls) and student accommodations, and then generate a targeted menu of 3 to 5 tailored CfU strategies. From there, Gemini will offer to dive deeper by providing alternative prompts, unpacking common misconceptions, scripting short reteach moves, or formatting checks into printable exit tickets and digital slide templates.
